With its ever-changing “menu” of plays, Too Much Light… is an attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes—an original concept by Greg Allen and written by the New York Neo-Futurists. The audience is fully part of the act, deciding the order that these plays are performed. Each week, these plays shift as ensemble members add new plays to the existing body of work. Each night of performance, we aim to create an unreproducible living newspaper of the comic and tragic, the political and personal, the visceral and experimental.
The single unifying element of these plays is that they are performed from a perspective of absolute honesty. We always appear as ourselves on stage, speaking directly from our personal experiences. Each short play is written by a performer, honed by the ensemble, and randomly collaged with twenty-nine other plays through high energy audience participation.
“BEST THEATER OF 2015: BROADWAY AND BEYOND. This long-running Off-Off-Broadway gig proved itself equal to anything the big boys offer. TMLMTBGB is a collection of 30 two-minute plays that are written fresh every week and performed by the Neo-Futurists in their East Village hidey-hole. I had never seen it, and caught their appropriately titled “Best of 2015″ performance. Two highlights: a bit with a cupcake and a power drill, which made me laugh harder in 30 seconds than the entirety of School Of Rock; and a solo piece about HIV-positive lovers finding comfort in their shared illness, which had me crying faster than Cynthia Erivo.” – Forbes Magazine
